Roof suitability
Can I install solar panels on a flat roof?
Flat roofs can support solar installations, but the mounting arrangement, spacing, loading and roof condition need careful design. A flat-looking surface is not automatically a ready-to-use panel area.

Mounting changes the layout
Panels may be raised at an angle rather than laid in one continuous sheet. Their rows can shade one another, so spacing and direction affect both capacity and generation. The best arrangement is not found by covering every visible square metre.
Check structure and waterproofing
The roof must suit the proposed mounting and loading approach. Wind conditions, fixings or ballast, drainage and access also need attention. A remote view cannot establish whether the roof structure or waterproofing can support the design.
Use the assessment carefully
Ask whether the proposed result includes the flat-roof area and what arrangement was assumed. An omitted area may reflect a supported-design limit rather than proof that solar is impossible. VERA’s assessment can start the conversation, but the installer must confirm a practical design and quote for the actual roof.
