Costs and savings

How should I compare solar installation quotes?

Compare solar quotations on design, assumptions, equipment and installation scope before comparing their headline prices. Two quotations can describe quite different systems for the same house.

Put the layouts side by side

Check the roof faces used, panel count and capacity, and any excluded areas. Then compare generation estimates on consistent assumptions. An optimistic generation figure may make a quote look financially attractive without improving the underlying installation.

Check the job, not just the hardware

Look for access and scaffolding, electrical work, monitoring, equipment models, warranties and aftercare. Ask what is excluded and when additional costs could arise. With storage, compare usable battery capacity and supported functions rather than the product name alone.

Make the next step explicit

Clarify whether the price is indicative, subject to survey or a firm offer for a defined scope. Record changes in writing before agreeing. Your quote follows your solar results; use the assessment to ask better questions, rather than treating it as a substitute for the final design and contract.
