Generation and shading
How do east–west solar arrays compare with south-facing panels?
East–west and south-facing systems can differ in both annual generation and its timing. Compare realistic panel layouts on your roof rather than choosing from direction alone.

Compare the same question
Equal panel counts, equal capacity and the maximum that fits on each roof are three different comparisons. State which one is being made. A larger east–west arrangement should not be described as a direct test of direction against a smaller south-facing arrangement.
Timing can matter
Spreading panels across different roof faces can change when generation is available. That may be relevant to household demand and battery operation. It does not automatically make one arrangement cheaper or more valuable, because tariffs and installation costs still matter.
Ask for the assumptions
Request the included roof faces, panel capacities, shading treatment and modelled energy for each option. VERA’s property-specific assessment helps show which arrangements deserve discussion. The final decision should connect generation with your consumption pattern and a surveyed installation proposal.
