Generation and shading
Do solar panels work in winter and cloudy weather?
Solar panels can generate electricity in cloudy weather and winter daylight, but output varies. Shorter days and seasonal conditions mean a summer result should not be treated as a winter expectation.

Look beyond the best day
A photograph taken on a bright day or an app showing a brief high output says little about a full year. Compare annual and seasonal generation where available. The useful question is how the system performs over time, not whether it reaches its rating at one moment.
Winter demand may be different
Homes can use more electricity during darker months, particularly with electric heating. That can create a mismatch between the time of greatest demand and the time of greatest solar production. Annual totals alone hide this difference.
A home battery is not seasonal storage
A normal home battery moves energy between parts of the day; it does not usually store the summer’s surplus for winter. Discuss winter grid imports and realistic battery use alongside your solar assessment. VERA’s result is an estimate with assumptions, not a year-round self-sufficiency guarantee.
